Q - Does the password I have for the Live Auction Webcast system also work to access the Timed Online Auctions system and/or auction results?
A - No, at this time registration is separate for each auction system.
Q - What is the minimum computer system I need to bid live online?
A - You need at least a 1GHz CPU, 512Mb RAM, Sound card & speakers, Windows XP or newer (Macs not supported), 1024x768 screen resolution, Internet Explorer 6 or newer. (Netscape, Chrome and AOL browsers are NOT supported.)
Q - Do I need to register for online bidding for each auction?
A - No, only one registration is necessary. Once we have received your bank letter of reference, your permanent bidding number and password will be emailed to you.
Q - I registered and received a bidding number and password but it won't let me bid.
A - The bidding number and password you receive is not activated until we receive a letter of reference from your bank or lender. This protects you from false registrations.
Q - I registered but did not receive a bidding number and password.
A - Are you sure you entered your email address correctly? If so, please check your junk or spam email folder. You must add the domains steffesauctioneers.com and iqbid.com to your safe-sender list prior to registering.
Q - I have forgotten my bidding number and/or password. What can I do?
A - You will need to call Ryan at 701-237-9173. Please have your email address or bidding number ready beforehand.
Q - Should I re-register if my bidder information has changed (e.g. email address, phone, etc.)?
A - No, log in using your permanent bidding number and password and click on "Edit Profile" at the top of the page. You can change your information there as well as change your password if you wish.
Q - I am behind a firewall, what ports do I need to open?
A - LAI connects to a remote server on three Internet sockets during an auction. Your firewall MUST be configured to permit outbound connections to these sockets if you want to participate in our Live Auction Webcasts:
- TCP Socket 6789 - Bidding and Administration
- TCP Socket 8000 - Audio
- TCP Socket 9192 - Video
Q - I don't see anything when I click on the auction link.
A - Make sure you have downloaded and installed the LAI Auction Software. Also make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements (see above), and you have disabled any pop-up blockers or other security programs prior to logging in.
Q - My sound isn't working.
A - Has the auction started yet? No sound will be broadcast until the auction has started. Make sure your speakers are plugged in, turned on and the volume is turned up. Also make sure your computer has a sound card and the sound card on your computer is not muted or turned down. If your sound is still not working, please manually download the LAI Auction Software.
Q - I can't see the entire bidding screen. It's too big!
A - The bidding interface is designed for a screen resolution of at least 1024x768. Go to the control panel of your computer, select display or screen and change your resolution setting to at least 1024x768.
Q - My computer slows down or my screen seems to freeze. Why is this happening?
A - You may have other windows open or programs running in the background (e.g. anti-virus programs, email, etc.) Close all other programs before logging on and close any unnecessary web pages after logging on. Also click on the "Refresh" or "Reload" button at the top of your screen occasionally to keep your computer up to speed.
Q - I am on a dial-up Internet connection. Can I participate in the Live Auction Webcasts?
A - There are very few dial-up connections that will work correctly with the Live Auction Webcasts. Several of our registered bidders are bidding from computers other than their own that have high speed Internet (e.g. a friend, library, banker, insurance agent, etc.) We strongly recommend bidding from a computer connected to high speed Internet for the live bidding. However, all Internet connections including dial-up will work with our Online Absentee Bidding and Timed Online Auctions. If you are on dial-up, register and place your bids through the absentee bidding feature and let our system bid for you.
Q - Can I place an absentee bid on the Live Auction Webcast system?
A - Yes. Register online as a Live Auction Webcast bidder. One you are approved you will need to log in one hour prior to the auction, view the posted auction catalog, click on the lot(s) you are interested in, then click the "Place Proxy Bid" link at the top of the page. Once you enter your bid, the system will be able to bid for you during the live auction.
Q - If I enter a bid through the Online Absentee Bid feature is that what the item will cost me?
A - No, not necessarily. Online Absentee bids are collected and stored by the Live Auction Webcast system. When the item you placed a proxy bid on comes up for auction, the system will bid for you until you win that item or until the maximum amount you entered is reached, whichever comes first.
Q - If I enter an Online Absentee Bid can I still bid live online if I decide to bid higher?
A - Yes, if your online absentee bid is surpassed you can bid more via the live screen if you are online when the item is selling. The Online Absentee Bid feature is good insurance in case of an Internet or computer failure on your end. The system will not allow you to bid live until your absentee bid is surpassed as to prevent you from bidding against yourself.
Q - Is there a way of knowing when an item is going to sell in the auction?
A - Yes, a printable online catalog is normally posted at least one day or more prior to the auction. This catalog is the auction order and has several pictures of the items. You can access this catalog by clicking on the catalog link in the "Upcoming Auctions" section once you're logged in.
Q - I decided to bid on an item at the last moment but it didn't accept my bid.
A - Never wait until the last moment to bid. The computer administrator may have closed the sale before your bid came in. The auctioneer may have gotten a floor bid at the same time as your bid or he received your bid just as he sold the item. Always bid early on an item so the auctioneer knows there is an interested online bidder.
Q - Can I watch an auction without registering?
A - Yes, there is a view only section that can be accessed either by clicking the "View Only" link below the login box, or by clicking here.
Q - Is there a charge for using the Live Auction Webcast system?
A - Yes, There is a 2% charge ($500 maximum per item) added to your purchase whether bidding via the Live Auction Webcast or by absentee bidding in any form. Absentee bidding in any form saves you the costly travel expense and your valuable time. The buyer convenience charge we have instituted helps cover part of the costs involved with offering you the convenience of bidding from your home or office via Internet or any other form.
